Red Palm Tavern appears to be well suited for downtown Charleston’s unofficial NoMo neighborhood, the “north Morrison” area along Morrison Drive north of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.

The new restaurant’s indoor-outdoor bar is frequently filled from the late afternoon on, with music and the voices of play-by-play sports announcers on the television screens echoing out onto North Hanover Street.

Before opening, Red Palm Tavern owner and general manager Beau Sliger saw the growth in the area, home to a new apartment complex and 10-year-old brewery with a highly anticipated new food partner — that’s Revelry Brewing Co.

Sliger, who has worked in the Charleston bar business for two decades, envisions a future where the bar and dining scene crawls farther up the peninsula. That’s already started to happen at Revelry and Red Palm.

Whether they live nearby or visit from Mount Pleasant, across the nearby bridge, Red Palm patrons are going to the 45 Romney St. destination for the beer and themed nights, like trivia (Wednesdays), country (Thursdays) and live music (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).

Many are staying for the food, which Sliger called “high-end bar food with a Southern twist.”

That means diners can expect wings, ribs and flatbreads, cooked in the wood-fired grill left over by previous tenant Crust, and Southern riffs like shrimp burgers and cheesy collard green dip.

Red Palm Tavern is open daily from 11 a.m.-midnight. For more information, visit redpalmtavern.com.
