NIXON: Jamestown's Fort Taylor advances in rank

Taylor

Hometown proud

A huge congratulation is in order for Jamestown’s very own native, Sgt. Maj. Fort Taylor III. He was recently promoted to this new position at a military ceremony held in Jacksonville, North Carolina, surrounded by proud family members.

Taylor’s military career expands more than 17 years. He joined the Marine Corps shortly after graduating from Timberland High School in 2001. He has served throughout the world, including in Japan, Hawaii, Russia, Finland and much more.

Taylor’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal second award and the Army Achievement Medal.

He is stationed at Camp Geiger, N.C., with School of Infantry — East.

Taylor has been married for 11 years to his wife, Sara; they have two children, Destani and Aden.

Neighborhood Watch

Mark your calendars. The 29453 Community Neighborhood Watch group will conduct its first monthly meeting of the year at 7 p.m., Jan. 28 at the Jamestown Steel Shed.

Sheriff Duane Lewis will serve as the speaker for the evening. Come out and meet your Sheriff, as he and his office are doing a wonderful job of keeping our communities safe. Refreshments will also be served.

Happy New Year

I am wishing everyone a Happy New Year. 2019 is here and I hope that it is a very prosperous year for us all.

I pray that the New Year finds everyone in good health, strength and finances. As the holidays conclude, it’s time to focus on those new goals, plans and dreams.

May this be your best year yet.
