Berkeley pitcher Raelee Brabham struck out seven batters in a 6-2 win over Lugoff-Elgin on Saturday.

Berkeley High School's softball team advanced to the championship game of the District VIII tournament with a 6-2 win over Lugoff-Elgin on Saturday.

The top-seeded Lady Stags (23-2) will play Wednesday for the district crown and would have to lose twice to be denied a spot in the Class 4A Lower State final four tournament.

Lady Stags hurler Raelee Brabham tossed a complete game and struck out seven to lead her team from within the circle. She allowed five hits.

At the plate, Berkeley jumped on Lugoff-Elgin early with three runs in the first inning. The Lady Stags added to their lead with three more in the fourth. Lugoff-Elgin's lone runs came in the sixth inning.

Brooklynn Stueness drove in three runs for Berkeley and had two hits. Jersey Silver also had two hits from the leadoff spot. Silver and Haylee Wilkerson each knocked in a run.

Timberland Softball splits playoff contests

Timberland High School’s softball team won its Class 3A playoff opener, 10-0, against Wade Hampton High School on April 26 and played tight with top-seeded Aynor before falling 2-0 on Saturday, April 28.

The Lady Wolves were slated to host Strom Thurmond on Monday, April 30 in an elimination game, with the winner advancing to Wednesday’s District VI championship at Aynor and having to win twice to make the Lower State final four tournament.

In the win over Wade Hampton, pitcher Abby Prince threw a four-hitter while Brooke Moody had four hits. Tori Rose added three hits for the Lady Wolves, who scored eight runs in their first at-bat.

In baseball, the Wolves were 0-2 in the Class 3A playoffs, falling to May River and Dillon.

Cross cruises past MMA

Dillon Benenhaley scored a pair of goals and teammates Raekwon Smalls, Dorian Pinckney and Alec Adobas added one apiece as the Cross High School soccer team coasted past Military Magnet 5-0 on April 26.

The Trojans are in the Class A playoffs and host St. John’s on May 1 and would advance to take on Charleston Math and Science in the second round on May 3 if they win.

The defense of Jonathan Packard, Destiny Bermudez, Jovonne Ripley and Tyrese Willis shut down MMA attacks on the Trojan goal to record another shutout.
