Goose Creek High School’s soccer teams opened Region 6-5A play Friday, March 15, with victories against Berkeley High School.

Goose Creek’s girls won 3-1 at home, while the Gators’ boys traveled to Moncks Corner and came back with a 2-1 victory.

Senior Skylah Gregory powered the Goose Creek girls with three goals and an assist. They upped their record to 4-3-1.

Juniors Chris Bonilla and Jose Ambrocio tallied goals for the Gators’ boys. The Goose Creek boys improved to 4-5.

Hanahan boys 8

North Charleston 1

Four players scored two goals each to lift Hanahan past North Charleston in the Region 8-3A opener for both teams Friday, March 15, at HHS.

Senior Mauricio Salazar, senior Yahir Vega, senior Hunter Owens and senior Darling Diaz booted in goals for the Hawks, and Diaz distributed three assists.

The Hawks improved to 7-2-1.

Hanahan won the girls game between the two schools, 15-0.

Timberland 1

The Goose Creek girls soccer team cruised to a victory against Timberland Monday, March 18, in a non-region game.

Noveah Moleli led the Gators with three goals, while Maya Gonzalez, Skylah Gregory and Madelyn Huffman tallied two goals apiece. Kinsley Collins, Emily Winstead, Katherine Pesca, Diane Almanzar, Malea Bongbonga and Kamily Santana added goals for the Gators.

The teams played two days later and Goose Creek won 10-1. Gregory scored four goals for the Gators and Wynter Burgess tallied Timberland's lone goal.

Danny Escamilla and Joseph Torres scored goals to lift the Goose Creek boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory Monday, March 18, in a non-region clash.

Cane Bay girls 3

Stratford 1

Junior Claire Orth scored two goals and senior Ariana Jackson added the other as Cane Bay’s girls edged Stratford in a Region 6-5A match on Tuesday, March 19, at SHS.

The Cobras improved to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the league heading into a matchup versus Goose Creek Friday, March 22 (after press time). The Cobras travel to Stall Tuesday, March 26, for a non-region matchup and take on Berkeley in another league game Thursday, March 28, in Moncks Corner.

Stratford boys 2

Senior Rodney Miller scored a goal and senior Jackson McNeil tallied the assist in Stratford’s region soccer victory Tuesday, March 19, at Cane Bay.

The Knights improved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the league heading into a home showdown with Wando Thursday, March 21 (after press time). Wando and Stratford have shared the region title each of the previous two seasons.

The Cobras dropped to 2-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Hanahan 8

Darling Diaz collected three goals and two assists to power the Hanahan boys soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Battery Creek in a Region 8-3A game Tuesday, March 29, in Beaufort. Mauricio Salazar added two goals for the Hawks (8-2-1, 2-0 region).

In the girls game, Hanahan won 2-0 to improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Berkeley swept by Wando

Berkeley's soccer teams dropped to 0-2 in league play with losses to Wando Wednesday, March 20.
