COLUMBIA — Shirley Nadine Durden, 86, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

Born and raised in Cordesville, SC, Shirley was a daughter of the late Alexander Washington, Brown, Sr. and Lou Visor Shuler. She was a true fashionista whose passion for clothing, shoes, and accessories led to a very successful career in retail with Belk before owning her own shop, Shirley’s Boutique, for many years. In her spare time, Shirley loved to paint, shop, and spend time with her family and friends. She was a member of Moncks Corner United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Susie Durden Reed (Scott) of Columbia, SC; son, George Durden, IV of Oklahoma; grandson, Austin Reed (Kalen) of Columbia, SC; grandson, Carson Reed (Chelsea) of Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Kerstin Brown (Justin) of California; grandson, George Durden V of California; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

Shirley was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, mother, and “Nanny” to so many, and the family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, kind words, condolences, and memories shared during this time.

“I can no longer see you with my eyes or touch you with my hands, but I will feel you in my heart always and forever.”
