Berkeley County Council has recognized Kylee Kellermann as the local 2023 choice for the South Carolina Association of Counties Board of Directors Scholarship.

“The SCAC Scholarship Committee met this spring to evaluate applicants,” said Councilman Josh Whitely, District 2. “The members had a difficult assignment in choosing a recipient; however, they found a young person whose credentials reflect most favorably upon the program in Berkeley County.”

Kellerman, a senior at Philip Simmons High School, plans to major in business at Clemson University. She is a member of the National Honors Society and Beta Club. She also has received the Honors College and Career Readiness Specialty Seals of Distinction from the S.C. Department of Education.

“In addition to academic success throughout high school, she is a three-sport varsity letterman, served as varsity basketball team captain for six years and has been named to multiple all-region, all-Lowcountry and all-state teams,” Whitely said.

Kellerman also volunteers with Holy Cross Church, Low Income Family Food coordinated with Lowcountry Pantry, Meals for the Homeless and the Lowcountry Food Bank.

"She also organized a bake sale that, in one day, raised more than $800 for supplies for One80 Place," Whitely said.

“It seems to me the decision was easy,” concluded Whitely. “[...] Kylee, you are most deserving of this scholarship.”

This scholarship program was established in 1998 to recognize outstanding students who planned to further their education in South Carolina. Each year, the program awards $2,500 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors who live in counties chosen by the state association. Berkeley County was included in the counties selected this year.
