Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced the arrest of a Sangaree woman after the discovery of a significant cache of drugs.

Seven pounds of fentanyl and other drugs were found in the home of Dietra Drayton, 40, of Highland Avenue. Detectives from the Berkeley County Drug Enforcement Unit arrested and charged Drayton after the drugs were found by firefighters responding to a call at the residence.

While responding to a fire alarm Friday, March 22, firefighters entered Drayton’s residence due to it being full of smoke. Upon clearing the house, fire personnel found several bags of different colored powders, a pill press on a bedroom floor and a blender covered in powder on the bathroom sink. Deputies on the scene identified the powders as suspected narcotics and notified the drug enforcement unit. Detectives responded and confirmed the powder field-tested presumptive for fentanyl.

Drayton advised detectives she lived in the house, and she was detained pending the execution of a search warrant. Detectives then seized the following:

  • More than seven pounds of various color powders that field-tested presumptive for fentanyl
  • One pill press on the bedroom floor
  • Six bags of purple and yellow pills
  • Approximately 400 grams of marijuana
  • One blender covered in a powdery substance
  • Digital scales and plastic bags
  • One AR Pistol with a 31-round extended magazine

Drayton is facing multiple charges, which are trafficking fentanyl, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and distribution within a half-mile of a school.
