Berkeley County EMS will add an advanced life support ambulance, paramedics and emergency medical technicians near Highway 17A and Highway 176.

Berkeley County Emergency Medical Services is adding an advanced life support ambulance, paramedics and emergency medical technicians to serve the corridor surrounding Highway 17A and Highway 176, County Public Information Officer Hannah Moldenhauer announced Tuesday.

The unit will serve the area starting April 1.

The truck won’t have a set location, but will shift based upon need in the area. It will operate between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

This is the second ambulance in about a month to be added to Berkeley County. In its 2017-2018 budget, Berkeley County Council accounted for four new ambulances to be added to the department.

“Public safety is a top priority in Berkeley County,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler via the press release. “We are proud that our EMS professionals are making the necessary advances to increase the protection of our citizens. Our system is getting stronger, faster and providing better patient care.”

The move occurs in the middle of public debate between Berkeley County and Moncks Corner regarding emergency services. Moncks Corner officials want the county to fund an ambulance for the town. The town seeks a relationship that mirrors Goose Creek and Hanahan who receive between $200,000 and $300,000 from the county for EMS services.
