Ishan White scored a team-high 24 points and Trevur Smalls added 22 points as the Berkeley High School boys basketball team recorded a road victory, 80-69, at Stall High School to begin the 2018-19 season on Friday.
“It’s always great to start off the season with a win, especially on the road,” BHS coach Joe Wallace said. “We definitely have some things to improve on but we are headed in the right direction. I was pleased by the unselfish play by my guys… Stall is well coached and they play hard.”
The Stags dished out more than 20 assists.
White had a double-double, pulling down 10 boards and dishing three assists. Smalls collected eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Cameron Fordham added 11 points and four assists for the Stags and Marcel Jackson chipped in eight points. DJ Chisolm scored six points and gave up seven assists.
Berkeley’s boys led by 11 after a quarter and 15 at halftime. Smalls had three dunks in the opening two quarters to provide extra energy.
In the girls game, Berkeley dropped a heartbreaker, 47-45. Stall scored on a layup in the closing seconds to earn the victory.
The Stags are slated to meet Ashley Ridge at home on Monday, Dec. 3 (after press time) before hosting rival Timberland High School on Friday, Dec. 7 and Woodland on Dec. 11.
