Trevur Smalls scored a game-high 17 points to lead four players in double figures as Berkeley High School’s boys basketball team began the Region 7-AAAAA slate with a 64-47 victory on Jan. 8.
DJ Chisolm, Hakeem Meggett and Cameron Fordham chipped in 14, 13 and 12 points respectively for the Stags (13-1, 1-0 region). Berkeley jumped out to a 20-11 lead after a period.
The win came on the heels of the season’s first loss on Saturday against Cardinal Newman.
Tristan Feeling led Wando with 13 points.
Berkeley girls edge Wando
LeeToria Dorsey recorded a double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds to power Berkeley’s girls past Wando, 44-43, in the Region 7-AAAAA opener on Jan. 8.
D’Kerra Middleton added 15 points and six rebounds for the Lady Stags (6-7, 1-0 region)
Timberland swept by North Charleston
Visiting North Charleston pulled out both ends of a region basketball doubleheader on Jan. 8
The North Charleston girls edged Timberland, 31-29, and the Cougars won the boys game, 55-38.
Jayla Evans had 13 points for Timberland’s girls. Elajah Allen scored eight points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
The Lady Wolves are 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the region.
Timberland’s boys are 4-10 and 0-2.
Cobras seventh in Bearcat Invitational
The Cane Bay High School wrestling team placed four grapplers inside the top three of their weight classes to finish seventh out of more than 30 teams in Rock Hill’s Bearcat Invitational on Jan. 5.
Dougie Metts (113) was a runner-up for the Cobras while Raleigh D’Antico (106), Ralph Inge (138) and Spencer Wall (160) finished third.
