Moncks Corner improved to 2-0 in the Dixie Boys 14U state tournament with a 15-6 victory over Hartsville Northern on Sunday at Oscar Frazier Park in Bluffton.
Moncks Corner scored 13 unanswered runs after falling behind 6-2, the last nine in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 6-6 tie.
Moncks Corner is scheduled to play Sumter on Monday at 4 p.m., in a winner’s bracket game (after press time). Tuesday’s game would be at either 4 p.m. or 7 p.m., with the winner’s bracket playing the late game.
The tournament is set to end on Thursday, July 25, with the winner advancing to the Dixie Boys World Series Aug. 3-7 in Aiken.
The South Carolina winner opens up against Alabama in the Dixie Boys World Series.
Moncks Corner had won 6-1 on Saturday against Mullins in the tournament opener.
Hartsville scored three runs in the top of the third to take a 5-2 lead and tacked on another one in the top of the fourth inning.
Moncks Corner cut its deficit in half to 6-4 with a pair in the bottom of the inning, scoring one on a balk and another on a dropped ball in the outfield.
In the fifth, Miller McGuire evened the score, 6-6, with a two-run double to right center.
In the decisive at-bat, Moncks Corner scored five runs on errors, stole home once and JP Proctor mashed a three-run homer to put the finishing touches on what turned out to be a rout.
Earlier in the game, Moncks Corner got a RBI single from Gavin Driggers and sacrifice fly to right field by Proctor.
Proctor also had a two-run homer against Mullins.
