Josh Legnard struck out eight batters over six innings and didn’t allow an earned run in St. John’s Christian’s 5-4 playoff victory over Wardlaw on Monday.

The Cavaliers (8-8) take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series, which shifts to Wardlaw today for Game 2. A decisive game would be at SJCA on Thursday.

The winner of the series will meet the Dorchester Academy-Laurens Academy winner in the second round, beginning on Monday.

Legnard helped himself at the plate, too. He knocked in two runs in a four-run first inning, answering Wardlaw’s two spot in the top of the first.

AJ Legette was the lone SJCA player with multiple hits and scored two runs. He took the bump in the seventh to notch the save.
