The St. John’s Christian softball team finished the season in the SCISA Class A tournament earlier this month and was one step away from playing for a crown.
The Lady Cavaliers were 12-8 overall and had a 10-game winning streak before falling twice to Wardlaw in the tournament. St. John’s Christian mercy ruled Richard Winn and Clarendon Hall in the tournament.
Wardlaw lost to eventual state champion Dorchester Academy in a best-of-3 series.
Good news moving forward for St. John’s Christian is most of the squad can return next spring.
Several players were honored at the team’s postseason banquet on May 16.
Junior C/P Charity Dennis was named the most valuable player with a .482 batting average and 5-1 pitching record.
OF/P Hannah Roberson, another junior, earned best offensive player with 21 stolen bases.
Senior 1B Sarah Mitchum, the lone 12th grader, earned the Cavalier award with a .483 batting average.
Freshman SS Beth Mitchum was named best defensive player and OF Emma Roberson, an eighth grader, took home the coaches award.
