Lennea Morlando

North Charleston’s Lennea Morlando throws a pitch against Goose Creek in the Dixie

Angels district tournament in Goose Creek last month.

Four Dixie Softball state championships will soon be decided in Moncks Corner, with the action starting Saturday, July 13.

The Darlings (8U), Angels (10U), Ponytails (12U) and Debs (19U) will vie for state supremacy and tickets to their respective division’s World Series tournaments.

There will be 32 teams – eight in each division – competing in Moncks Corner’s first Dixie Softball state tournaments. The Darlings will play at the old youth fields (663 Water Plant Road) while the other three are at the new regional complex (418 East Main Street).

Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children 6-12. Five and under are free.

As the host team, Moncks Corner will have a squad in each tournament. Hanahan’s Darlings and North Charleston’s Angels are in those fields. Both won district titles last month.

Opening ceremonies are slated for Friday, July 12.

States that play Dixie Softball are South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. State winners advance to their respective Dixie World Series.

Outside the area, the Dixie Belles begin their state tournament in Union, also on July 13. The Moncks Corner squad is the lone team in the district and went straight to the state event.
