Berkeley High School’s softball team fell into the loser’s bracket with a 7-1 loss to visiting Lexington High School on Saturday.
The Lady Cats outhit Berkeley 13-3 to win the Class 5A playoff game.
Sarah Gordon was 4 for 4 for Lexington and scored four runs while Allie Light threw a complete game and struck out 10, helping herself along the way with a two-run home run in the first inning.
Hannah Kumiyama added three hits and knocked in three runs for Lexington, which advanced to Wednesday’s District VII championship.
Haylee Wilkerson drove in Berkeley’s lone run with a groundout in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting Lexington’s lead to 5-1.
Berkeley (18-6) hosts St. James on Monday (after press time) in an elimination game. The winner would have to beat Lexington twice on Wednesday to advance to the Lower State final four tournament.

Berkeley’s baseball team saw its season come to a close in a 10-0 loss to visiting Sumter High School on Saturday night in the Class 5A playoffs.
The Stags (20-7) managed just one hit and made three errors against the Gamecocks.
Berkeley finished 1-2 in the playoffs, having beaten Sumter 3-2 on April 23 in the opening game before falling 4-2 in 10 innings to visiting River Bluff on April 25.
It was the final game for nine Berkeley seniors, including all-region catcher Hayden Dawson.
Additional seniors were P/1B Cole Mitchum, OF Alec Wyndham, P/OF Daniel Bilton, P Blake Southard, OF Jackson Weathers, P/1B Eric Tuttle, P/OF Hunter Hicks and P/OF Peyton Morgan.
Zeigler finished the season with an 8-0 record and an earned-run average below 1.00.
The Stags won the Region 7-AAAAA championship this spring after going 8-16 in 2018.
As for next spring, they return region player of the year Jeffrey Zeigler. Zeigler, a pitcher/infielder, was 8-0 on the season with an earned-run average under 1.00.
Infielder Jesse Free and pitcher Rhett Legette are also all-region selections who can return in 2020 when the Stags aim to defend their region title.
