The victim said a carjacker got in the idling SUV she was sitting in and took off with her and her two mastiffs inside the vehicle.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said it happened on the evening of Jan. 8. The victim said she waited in the vehicle as her husband went inside the Cricket Express at 1448 S. Live Oak Drive in Mocks Corner.
Deputies said not long after the husband went into the store a suspect, described only as a black male with a light complexion wearing a tan in color hooded sweatshirt, jumped in the driver side of the Lincoln Navigator and drove off.
The woman told deputies as the suspect was driving, she didn’t see a weapon and didn’t hear the suspect make any verbal threats but she believed he was armed and she feared for her life.
Deputies said the victim then opened the passenger side door and jumped out of the moving vehicle, receiving minor injuries to her legs and hip as a result. The suspect continued to drive away.
The deputies said there were two dogs inside the SUV; one black mastiff and one grey mastiff. The woman’s purse, identification and cell phone also were in the vehicle.
Deputies searched the immediate area for the dogs thinking the suspect may have let them out, but there was no sign of the animals.
Deputies also searched the area for the vehicle, but nothing was found; the investigation is ongoing.
