Timberland High School student and marching band member Tydasia Frazier received a full scholarship to Benedict College in Columbia.

Frazier who is in percussion, plays the snare drum has been with the band since she was in the sixth grade.

“I never thought I would be in band playing like this, I just wanted to go to biology,” Frazier said. “I never wanted to be in band.”

Frazier will go to Benedict next year as a freshman.

“I was surprised, I was happy and have had a smile on my face ever since,” she said.

Timberland High School band director Prince Brewton has been at the school for nine years said that Frazier is a hard worker and well at the next level and she is certainly not the first one he has sent off to college.

“This is a really good occasion because our band program over the past three years have had students go on to play collegiately and in the past three years we’ve had over a million dollars’ worth of scholarships,” said Brewing.
