Three men instrumental in establishing Moncks Corner’s recreational football league will soon have a field named in their honor.
Located inside the town’s Regional Recreation Complex at 418 E. Main St, the new football field is ready for action. A grand opening and dedication ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 14.
Moncks Corner Town Council members voted unanimously last week to name the field after Dave Copeland, Harold Staley and Bobby Caison.
While the details are still in the works, Mayor Michael Lockliear said the field will most likely be called CSC Field.
Staley and Caison were founding fathers of the town’s recreational football league and Copeland has been a coach for over 20 years.
Both Staley and Caison have passed away. Lockliear said the town waited until after the decision was finalized to tell relatives of the two men.
“The families had no clue we were considering it,” Locklear said.
Those three men should be recognized and honored for their contributions to the town, Lockliear said.
An opening ceremony dedication for the field will take place at 9 a.m. on Sept. 14. Football games are scheduled for the remainder of that day.
The recreational complex hosts a wide variety of sporting events including tournaments for softball, baseball, and even kickball. Basketball and soccer are also played at the site. The town’s next addition to the complex will be a Miracle League Field and an all inclusive playground.
