Helicopter crashes at Summerville Airport

An official from SLED reported that the pilot was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A helicopter crash on Wednesday afternoon at the Summerville Airport sent the pilot to the hospital with minor injuries. The aircraft was destroyed, but no other injuries were reported.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesperson Thom Berry, stating Wednesday that the helicopter was operated by SLED and the pilot was the only person on board.

The statement said the agency was working with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office at the time of the crash.

The pilot was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Berry said this is the first SLED helicopter crash in the agency's history. The FAA will investigate the incident.
