Bidder selected for Foxbank fire station

Moncks Corner Town Council

A contractor has been selected to begin constructing the Foxbank fire station.

Moncks Corner town council unanimously selected Larry Pittman & Associates from Augusta to construct the long-awaited project. Construction on the $1.7 million fire station is expected to begin over the summer and should be completed within 18 months, according to town officials.

Moncks Corner Mayor Michael Lockliear said the progress should somewhat ease residents’ anxiousness about the fire station that has been in the planning stages since 2008.

“We’re very dedicated in building that fire department,” Moncks Corner Mayor Michael Lockliear said.

Negations between the town and Berkeley County continue after the town expressed desire to receive funds to support a fire-based emergency medical services system that mirrors Goose Creek and Hanahan. Currently, those two municipalities receive hundreds of thousands of dollars from the county to run EMS services in the city using firefighters who are EMT-trained.

The station will also serve as a substation for the town’s police department. It will be the department’s only satellite location, providing a necessary presence for the emerging population on the Southern end.
