Berkeley County Council recognized the Whitesville Rural Volunteer Fire Department’s new accelerant K9 June 4.

The Whitesville Fire Department received a grant from State Farm Insurance Company for a dog to help identify accelerant use during fires.

Jennifer is a female yellow Labrador trained to locate the residual scents of flammable substances often used in cases of arson.

The primary mission for the Jennifer is to assist agencies throughout the Lowcountry to help determine illegal intent and insurance fraud.

Jennifer has worked with other agencies including Orangeburg and Berkeley counties in detecting accelerants and has been very successful in doing her job, officials said.
