Coliseum construction means parking changes for upcoming graduations

Berkeley High School’s 2018 graduation at North Charleston Coliseum

Construction at the North Charleston Coliseum will affect parking for approaching graduation ceremonies happening this month and next for Dorchester District Two and Berkeley County School District

Parking for all events at the coliseum are limited this year. In addition to the limited parking, Tanger Outlets will also not provide a place for overflow parking, as the shopping center has done in the past.

Students will be given two parking passes for the graduation ceremony. These passes will allow for a car to park in the allotted parking lot for the ceremony. Cars without a pass will not be allowed into the lot.

Additional parking will be available at 3659 W. Montague Ave., located just west of Interstate 526. The extra lot is within one mile of the coliseum.

Buses will shuttle people from the overflow lot to the coliseum for the May 25 ceremonies, according to Dorchester School Distrtict Two officials. Accessible buses for the disabled will also be provided.

Shuttle service will start at 7:15 a.m. for the Fort Dorchester High School graduation, 12:15 p.m. for Ashley Ridge High School graduation and 5:15 p.m. for Summerville High School graduation.

Berkeley County School District

According to the district, each graduating student will receive three parking passes to use and distribute. Parking for individuals with disabilities will be available upon presentation of a parking pass and proper decal.

For all those unable to obtain a parking pass for a graduation, the district will offer free shuttle service from Charles Towne Square movie theater’s parking lot the coliseum. Buses will start shuttling one hour before each graduation and run for an hour after.

Limited parking at the coliseum will primarily affect graduation ceremonies for Berkeley, Cane Bay, Goose Creek and Stratford high schools. However, the district advises graduates’ family and friends to carpool, if possible, and plan accordingly.

Please contact an individual student’s school for additional questions about parking passes.
