At its July 9 meeting, the Berkeley County Board of Education approved two new assistant principals for Cane Bay Middle School.

Andrea Lemon and Kamelio Johnson will be joining the leadership team for Cane Bay Middle for the 2019-2020 school year.

Their approval was met with a lot of excitement from their principal Carol Beckmann-Bartlett.

“Ms. Lemon and Mr. Johnson are both successful and effective math teachers who will be able to support high quality instructional programs, appropriate school routines, and successful management in all areas of Cobra life,” Beckmann-Bartlett said in a statement.

“With Mr. Evans’s transfer to BMS and the addition of the new allocation for growth, we are looking at how our whole administrative team functions to determine how all four of us can work best. The best instructional support systems for our school will come from putting our unique strengths together to form a cohesive, responsive team to care for our staff members, students, and families.”

Both Lemon and Johnson have taught in the district. Lemon joined BCSD in 2015 as a math teacher at Cane Bay Middle and was selected as Cane Bay Middle Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year. Johnson came to the district in 2017 as the math department chair at Goose Creek High School. He previously taught at South Brunswick High in Southport, North Carolina from 2014-2017. While at South Brunswick High, Johnson also served as the department chair for physical education.

The new principals will focus most of their energy on building and maintaining relationships with the staff and community, according to BCSD.
