The Daylily Club hosted Region 5 Daylily Summer Meeting. Meetings were held at the Pinopolis United Methodist Church. The dates of the Regional was May 31 and June 1. There were three gardens on tour, one in Moncks, one in Mt. Pleasant and Beautiful Day Gardens in Bethera. Tour buses arrived at 8:30 a.m. the other one came around about 12:15. There were approximately 90 visitors.There were visitors from North and south Carolina, all are members of Daylily Clubs throughout the states. Flowers were blooming and people were enjoying themselves looking at the flowers and also enjoying refreshments. Beautiful Day Gardens won two awards, one for best small Daylily, “Red riding Hood was Framed” and the other award was for best landscaped garden. Perry and Pam Gaskins of Bethera are the owners of Beautiful Day Gardens. The following Sunday after the tours they had an open garden for visitors from local churches and the community.
The tours is a yearly event, next year it will be at other gardens in North Carolina. It rotates every year from NC. to SC. There is a total of thirteen clubs in SC.and NC. The LowCountry Daylily Club will start back with their meetings on Aug. 25. It will be held at the Old Santee Canal Park. Anyone attending needs to let the guard at the gate know they are with the Daylily Club.
The Berkeley County Library System has It’s Story Time. In Moncks Corner it’s on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11a.m. The St. Stephen library has Story Time on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11a.m.
The community sends their sympathy and prayers to the family of Vera Junior Owens. He passed away on June 5.
