A single in the bottom of the first inning by catcher Vicky Grimsley knocked in two runs for the Region 3-A champs. The Lady Wolves found themselves trailing only once in the game when North Myrtle kept things interesting as it took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third with a 2-run single.
With runners on second and third, shortstop Macey Gatlin popped up a sacrifice fly to knock in the tying run in the third. Two wild pitches by the Seahawks gave THS a 5-3 lead before the end of the third inning. Walked batters helped the Lady Wolves take an 8-3 lead before the end of the sixth inning.
“I feel everyone was playing very strong out there and we were able to get an early lead, which took pressure off our pitcher,” THS Head Coach Joy Elizondo said. “We took advantage of errors made by the Seahawks and we came out with a very solid victory. We made some errors ourselves, but we plan to work on them before Saturday. All in all it was a good day both at the plate and on the mound.”
Pitcher Shelly Grimsley racked up her 13th win of the season with nine strike outs and no walks.
“Everyone really wants to continue our season and we need to keep winning these playoff games if we’re going to do that,” Grimsley said. “I felt good out there today and – and we were able to get a solid win.”
