The Cross Trojans are in. The Timberland Wolves could emerge as Region 7AA champs once the dust settles.

And the Berkeley Stags, it’s all about the scoreboard: Win and they’re in.

A couple of big Tuesday matchups could reshape the way the playoff field is set as the 2011-2012 basketball season enters its final week.

With a win over Hilton Head, the Stags would grab the fourth seed in Region 7AAA and the Wolves could grab another Region 7AA championship with a win over Kingstree. Cross enters the Region 6A playoffs as the third seed.

On the girls’ side the Berkeley Lady Stags’ season will end with a frustrating sixth place Region 7AAA finish with a 1-7 record, 4-17 overall.  Cane Bay’s girls also miss a shot at post-season play with a 2-6 record and a fifth place region finish.

For the Cross Trojans’ girls under first year coach Calvin Davis, a win over Lincolnville and a St. John’s loss on Tuesday would give the Lady Trojans the fourth seed in the region. Both Cross and St. John’s are tied with identical 4-7 region marks.

Timberland’s Lady Wolves wrapped up a rebuilding season after winning the 2011 Class AA state championship last year.

Timberland didn’t win a game in the 2011-2012 campaign but didn’t really expect to. This was a rebuilding year for the Lady Wolves who enjoyed a roster of 11 seniors in 2011.

In SCISA play, the St. John’s Cavaliers take the third seed into Friday’s region playoff action at Thomas Sumter Academy.

The Lady Cavaliers finished 7-11-1 overall and 0-9-1 in region play and will participate in a play-in game on Friday at the SCISA Region tournament. The Lady Cavs face Thomas Sumter in the first round of the playoffs.

See the Independent’s website and Facebook page for complete playoff results.
