Moncks Corner fisherman captures first place

Jason Barrett of Moncks Corner was one of two first place winners at the 2012 Carolinas Bass Challenge South Carolina Division fishing tournament on Feb. 11.

The event launched out of Cypress Gardens with 79 teams and a total purse of $16,800. It took place on the Cooper River.

Barrett and Ken Ellis of Bowman, SC took home First Place with five Cooper River Bass weighing 20.39 lbs. The two also brought in a fat 8.63 lb bass to take the $1,000 BF BONUS. All total they took home $7,575.

Deron Donohoo of Sumter and Johnny Houser of Bishopville finished second and collected $2,650. Third Place went to Bradford and Dwight Beavers, both of Ridgeville, with five bass weighing 17.93 lbs. and a check for $1,800.

Edward Cox of Goose Creek and Gary Arnold of Mount Pleasant weighed in a limit at 17.20 lbs and collected $1,100 for their fourth place finish. Jason Johnson of Myrtle Beach, SC and Ron Cannon of Georgetown finished fifth and earned a total of $850.

At the conclusion of the event, 79 teams are one step closer to qualifying for the June 23 South Carolina Division Final where first place will take home a Skeeter TX190 equipped with a 150 Yamaha HPDI.

The next CBC SC Event is March 31 on Lake Murray.
