This was a night the Cavaliers honored their senior basketball players and cheerleaders during ceremonies in between the girls and boys games.
The biggest news of the night didn’t happen on the basketball court but instead happened when it was announced senior guard Ellis Hammond had received his congressional appointment to the Air Force Academy.
In the opening game, the Lady Cavs battled tooth and nail with Carolina Academy for four quarters threatening to break the game open with a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter, but the Bobcats rallied late to take game one 45-42.
Senior Diane Peagler led St. John’s with 16 points and Elizabeth Johnson added 15, 13 of which came in the second half.
For Carolina Lauren Reddick led all scorers with 20 points and Samantha Sparrow added 10 to lead the Bobcats.
In the nightcap Carolina broke out early and never looked back cruising to an easy 51-34 win. Adam McFaddin led all scorers with 16 points.
For St. John’s, Kyle Biggs led with 12 and Jason Roberts followed with 10 in the Senior Night loss.
