Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Andrew Kurton DeHay and Julia Myers DeHay. He was of the Baptist faith and was a United States Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War.
Mr. DeHay was an animal control officer for the Tybee Island Police Department. He was a Past Commander of American Legion Post 154 on Tybee Island and a member of Voyagers 567, Chatham County 49th.
Surviving are his companion, Patricia Ann Dennis; a daughter, Melinda Bodiford of Summerville; three sons, Robert Chaplin DeHay and Ronald Christopher DeHay, both of Bonneau, and Donald Galen DeHay of Anderson; a brother, Arthur H. DeHay of Summerville; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. DeHay’s ashes were be scattered off of the Tybee shore April 20.
