Alex Krall kicked the game-winning field goal with just 10 seconds left to lift Timberland to an 18-15 win over Dillon in the Class AA Div. I Lower State Championship game Friday night in Dillon.
The win sends the Wolves to the Class AA Div. I state championship next Friday against Woodruff.
The Wolves jumped to a 9-0 first half lead on a Mike Wilson touchdown run and the first of two crucial Krall field goals. The Wildcats surged back to take a 15-9 lead with two second half touchdowns.
Timberland tied the score with less than three minutes left in the game on a 27-yard pass from Taylor Elizondo to Lee Mayes. Krall’s potential go-ahead PAT was blocked and the game appeared headed for overtime.
With 25 seconds remaining, Auston McKinney picked off a pass deep in Wildcat territory, and two plays later Krall booted his game-winning kick.
With the win, the Wolves advance to the state championship game for the second time in school history and will play Woodruff at Benedict College.
