Man shoots wife, kills himself
A shooting at a home in Ladson Sunday night appears to be an attempted murder/suicide.
According to a Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies responded to a call about 9:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at a residence on Parlor Drive in the Tranquil Hill Plantation subdivision. When they arrived, they found 49-year-old Penny Lynn Mims lying in a driveway with visible gunshot wounds to the face, chest, and arm.
Mims told officers her husband, 58-year-old Michael Eugene Mims had shot her, for no apparent reason, and that he was still in their residence across the street from where the officers found her, according to the report. Following a trail of blood to the house, they found the front door open and with assistance from officers from the North Charleston SWAT team, cleared the residence. They found Michael Eugene Mims inside, dead, with a gunshot wound to his head.
The death was ruled a suicide by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.
Penny Lynn Mims was transported to MUSC for treatment.
The case is under investigation.
