A man shot to death Wednesday night outside his residence in Summerville has been identified.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the victim as 36-year-old John Elliott Hancock. Nisbet said the victim was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured, he said.
According to SPD Capt. Jon Rogers, officers responded to a call about a shooting at 203 Lilac Street in the Robynwyn Subdivision in Summerville. When they arrived, they found a 36-year-old black male, later identified as Hancock, who had succumbed to his injuries.
Rogers said witnesses described seeing a midsized four-door sedan leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle could be brown or silver in color and had several occupants.
SPD is seeking information on possible suspects and the suspect vehicle. All information can be called into the Summerville Police Department at 871-2463 or Crimestoppers at 554-1111.
