Anyone waiting to hear about the Berkeley County School Board’s decisions on TIF (tax increment financing) will have to wait a little bit longer.

Superintendent Anthony Parker, at the board’s July 13 meeting, said the board hopes to have an update for the public on TIF until at its next public meeting, scheduled for July 27 in Moncks Corner.

“We do not have an update for the revenue forecast,” Parker said.

In executive session at the June 22 meeting, the board received advice from its attorney concerning the effects of participation in a TIF district for financing the Sheep Island Road Interchange near Interstate-26.

The board's advisors are evaluating material concerning the legal structure and financial implications of the proposal, according to a release sent from PIO Kathie Sizemore. The board anticipates a public consideration of its response to the proposal.

According to Sizemore, the board is committed to the principle that quality public education is a key element in desirable and sustainable economic development, and will be guided by this principle throughout all discussions of the economic development of Berkeley County.
