A sailor stationed at the Naval Weapons Station is charged with felony DUI after a head-on collision last Wednesday evening that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

The crash occurred on U.S. 17-A in Berkeley County near Jamestown when a vehicle driven by Brandon Pilartowski crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Timothy Andrew Capps, Berkeley County Coroner Glenn Rhoad said.

Capps, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 6:30 p.m. The passenger in his vehicle, Donald Ray Cochrane, 34, was transported to the Medical University South Carolina , where he remains in critical condition, Rhoad said.

Capps and Cochrane had been working in the Moncks Corner area that day and were headed to their homes in Myrtle Beach when the crash occurred.

Bond for Pilarowski was set Friday at $750,000. He is currently in the custody of the Navy in the Naval Brig in Hanahan, Rhoad said.
