Safety Fair postponed

  • Monday, October 10, 2011

The annual Safety Fair and Parade, originally scheduled from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. today, has been postponed until next Monday, Oct. 17, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The event was postponed due to the rainy weather, said Lt. Jacob Evans of the Summerville Fire Department.
October is National Fire Prevention Month and the parade and Safety Fair are events a number of lowcountry area public safety agencies hold to commemorate the month and educate the public.
The event will be held in the parking lot of Lowe’s on North Main Street. Some 40 pieces of fire apparatus are expected to participate in the parade and the fair at Lowe’s, but other area agencies and organizations including the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, Charleston County Parks Department, MUSC’s Burned Children’s Fund, and Hearing Care of Summerville will be represented as well, Evans said.
Popcorn, cotton candy, and hotdogs will be available, as well as area vendors.
The parade route starts at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 at Summerville Medical Center and moves down Midland Parkway to Trolley Road to Main Street, Evans said. It is expected to arrive at Lowe’s between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m., he said.
