Student Chico Harrell is shown with one of the puppies. “I gave them my birthday money because the animal shelter needed help,” Chico said.
Whitesville Elementary School students’ recent Pennies for Puppies fundraiser for the Doc Williams SPCA in Moncks Corner raised $1,500. Classes competed to see which could raise the most pennies; when the final dollar count came in, the top five classes had a puppy from the shelter visit, and the students were able to name the puppies. Some teachers even matched what their class brought in. All of the visiting puppies were adopted.
