Children on a bus headed for Summerville Elementary School Thursday morning found two bullets on the floor of the bus, prompting a brief search of lockers and an investigation.
Dorchester School District 2 PIO Pat Raynor reported that a student informed the bus driver that there were two bullets on the floor at the back of the bus. The driver immediately retrieved the bullets and notified district officials. The bus had run a route earlier in the morning for Summerville High School, Raynor said.
District security officers working with the Summerville Police Department immediately conducted a security sweep at Summerville High School. The students who rode that bus were all questioned and a search was conducted that included their lockers and utilizing metal detectors. No weapons or ammunition were found, Raynor said.
As the investigation continued Thursday at Summerville Elementary and Summerville High School, the Principal at Summerville Elementary met again with the students that rode the bus where the bullet was found. One of those students did eventually admit to having the bullets on the bus, Raynor said.
The Summerville Police also questioned the student and will file a report.
The student will be recommended for disciplinary action, Raynor said.
