Hill joins Bill Salisbury and Sharon Shuler, who are vying for Glenn Rhoads’ position after Rhoads steps down at the end of this term.
“I am announcing, after eight months of campaigning and listening to the concerns of my fellow citizens, that I will be a candidate for coroner in the Republican Primary this June,” Hill said. “The support I have found, financial and otherwise, has been truly
humbling. I am confident the majority of primary voters will find me qualified to serve.”
In anticipation of his race for coroner Hill attended 48 hours of continuing education with law enforcement officers from around the state, and in October trained at the S.C.I.A. annual conference in Columbia focusing on Forensic Anthropology and Archeology.
“This included classroom instruction as well as an outdoor exhumation of skeletal remains from a shallow grave,” Hill said. “In November I attended ‘Inside the Tape’ sponsored by Myrtle Beach Police Department concentrating on homicide investigation, it was taught by a retired Detective from the Norfolk, Virginia Police Department.”
Hill is a lifelong native of Berkeley County.
“I grew up here in Berkeley County, working in the family ambulance service, serving the public alongside my father who was the county’s first deputy coroner,” he said. “I learned what trauma can do to a person, and a family, at a very early age.”
Hill feels he is the ideal candidate to bridge the various divisions of law enforcement.
“I know I can work effectively with the EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement agencies within the county,” he said.
“I will bring 30 years of experience owning a small business, which is vital to leading a department and equally important supervising deputies and support staff.
“I was born in Moncks Corner, am a high school graduate, and a member of First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner, where I serve as a deacon, as well as on the stewardship committee.”
