The remains of a man missing for more than two years were identified Feb. 7, according to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury.

The remains have been identified as Joe Samuel Swinton of St. Stephen.

The human skeletal remains were located in a wooded area off Platt Road in St. Stephen.

DNA samples were sent to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) lab and results confirmed that the remains are those of Swinton.

Swinton was 47 at the time of his death, according to Salisbury.

Swinton was reported missing Jan. 19, 2010. He was last seen on Jan. 17, 2010. His manner and cause of death has been ruled undetermined by the coroner.
