A fire in a subdivision in Summerville sent residents indoors for nearly four hours Saturday afternoon.

According to emergency officials, the fire started at about 12:50 p.m. in a utility trailer. that was owned and used by an individual who installs foam insulation. The fire ignited a spray used to install insulation causing the fire.

Chief Joe Medlock of the Old Fort Rural Fire Department said when firefighters arrived the trailer was fully engulfed.

We knocked the fire down and issue a reverse 911 call for residents to stay indoors and incoming traffic was diverted because exposure could be harmful. Hepaco, a private contractor that does hazardous waste cleanup was called in.

By 4 p.m., the air was cleared and another reverse 911 call was issued to let residents know everything was okay, Medlock said.
