Moncks Corner Mayor Bill Peagler took time out from the town council’s budget workshop last week to issue a proclamation.

Citing how life insurance provides financial security in the event of death by helping surviving family member to meet immediate and ongoing financial objectives, and to raise awareness that 44 percent of U.S. households lack adequate life insurance protection, the mayor proclaimed the month of September as “Life Insurance Awareness Month.”

“It’s important from both an investment standpoint and to benefit loved ones in the event something does happen to have adequate life insurance coverage,” Peagler said. “I’ve found that as I’ve gotten older I feel the need for life insurance far more than I did when I was younger.”

“It’s important for any wage earner with a family to have some form of affordable life insurance,” the mayor said. “You want to take care of the ones you love in the event something happens to you.”

The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE), the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and a coalition representing hundreds of leading life insurance companies and organizations have designated September as “Life Insurance Awareness Month.”

Their goal is to make consumers more aware of their life insurance needs, to show them how to seek professional advice and to take the actions necessary to achieve the financial security of their loved ones.

Appearing at the proclamation on behalf of LIFE and NAIFA were Steven Gramling and Johnny Hutto.
