Crosby's sends message to community
The following message is from Gwendolyn Crosby, on behalf of the Timberland High School Marching Band Boosters:
On behalf of the Timberland High School Marching Wolves, I want to thank the community for coming out to support our fundraising efforts.
Those who were in attendance witnessed an exciting exhibition game of Street Ball.
I am proud to announce that our team "The St. Stephen Ballers," under the direction of our Player/Coach and Timberland High School alumnae Eric Murrell, defeated Larry Legend's All Star Team with a final score of 129-114.
The team was comprised of the following: J.J. Broughton - Timberland High School Alum and Coach at Cross High School; Mandy Clark - St. Stephen resident and Milford Academy Alum, Baltimore, Md., Class of 2000; Chad Dewitt - Darlington High School alum, attending Spartanburg Methodist College; Keith Marshall - Timberland High School Alum and Graduate of Newberry College; Dishon Reddick, Timberland High School Alum class of 2007 currently attending Anderson College; Rico Singleton - Miracle Academy Alum currently attending Baltimore City Community College; and Vernon Taylor - Cross High School Alum currently attending Spartanburg Methodist College.
The Marching Wolves gave an outstanding performance (as usual) and some of the younger audience members were selected at random by both teams to participate in shooting contests, and received book bags filled with school supplies and various items from area radio stations. The raffle items were distributed to the winners who were more than pleased to win those gifts.
I recently received a telephone call from Mr. Legend who expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the citizens for their show of love and support. He told me that some of his teammates, including Mr. Raphael James (Live 5 News), were quite impressed by the talents of our home team and would be interested in visiting us again in the near future to play another game. I encourage everyone to keep their eyes and ears open for the announcement of a rematch.
It's Back- to-School time
During the summer months children usually get a bit more relaxed and there are often late morning sleep-ins, lots of TV or computer time, and late night activities.
Parents would do well to use some of following ideas as they prepare to transition children back into the school attendance routine.
Since the start time for most area schools is just a week or two away, begin the re-adjustment process immediately by using an alarm clock to assist children in getting up earlier. Establish a list of activities for them to accomplish during the day (whether or not you will be at home), to get them back into action mode. Also establish a time by which they must be in bed. (We all know how important a good night's sleep is to our learners).
It may take a little extra effort to accomplish the above tasks, but if you are successful, your children's school year will be off to a great start.
Hopkins Retires
Our best wishes for a wonderful retirement are extended to Lynn Hopkins for 20 years of outstanding service to Trident Technical College in Charleston.
Lynn served as the college's Vice President for Finance and Administration. Through her efforts and those of her staff, the college has consistently received exceptional audits. She will be dearly missed by her colleagues, the students of Trident Technical College, its administration and Board of Commissioners.
Stay well Lynn, and thanks for always going the extra mile.
