County accident claims one

A 29-year-old man was killed in Goose Creek early Sunday morning when he was struck by a Ford Mustang while crossing Red Bank Road near Goose Creek High School.

Armando Lopez died on the scene, according to Berkeley County Deputy Coroner George Oliver.

Lopez and another man attempted to cross Red Bank Road at approximately 3:20 a.m. when a northbound 2004 Ford Mustang driven by a 26-year-old North Charleston man swerved to avoid them, according to Lance Cpl. Bob Beres with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The vehicle missed the other man but struck Lopez, Beres said.

The driver of the vehicle was unhurt and no charges are expected to be filed in the case, officials said.
