Two men from the St. Stephen area were killed and a mother and three children received minor injuries last Wednesday night when a Lincoln Town Car pulled in front of a Chevrolet Corsica at the intersection of Highway 52 and Mandela Road in Bonneau, authorities said.

The driver of the Town Car, Elijah Rollerson, 52, died at the scene, while the passenger, Robert Lee Wilson, 49, was taken to the Medical University Hospital where he died at approximately 11:30 p.m., according to Berkeley County Coroner Glenn Road.

The Town Car was traveling on Mandela road and came to halt at the stop sign on Highway 52, but then continued onward into the intersection, directly into the path of the northbound Corsica, which then struck the Town Car on the passenger side at about 6:53 p.m., according to Cpl. Paul Brouthers with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

It was raining heavily at the time of the accident, Brouthers said.

The four occupants of the Corsica, a 32-year-old Moncks Corner woman and her three children, were treated for minor injuries and then released, Brouthers said.

The Highway Patrol and a special accident reconstruction team are still investigating the accident.  Jared Goyette can be reached at 830-9181 or at jgoyette@goosecreekgazette.com
