Dear Editor:
A big congratulation to the Berkeley Stags! They have done a tremendous job holding on to their record, winning their division and I have sure enjoyed watching those boys run. I will admit, I’m not the biggest fan of sitting up there when those bleachers start getting cold and I have to wrap up in a coat, another coat, warm socks, fuzzy slippers and a sleeping bag … and that was when it was only 50 degrees!
It is my opinion that the coaches of Berkeley High School football team should be commended for a job well done.
My son has played football since he was in the eighth grade. He absolutely loves it.
He loves the camaraderie, the feeling of being part of the team, and the feeling of victory when they win and the sadness of defeat when they lose. Thankfully, this year, the losses haven’t been so bad.
I attribute my son’s love of the sport to the discipline of his coaches and the guidance that he received from them. Being a senior, this is the last year he will experience all these things and now that they are down to the playoffs, I hope he carries memories with his for the rest of his life.
I know he feels very proud of his Berkeley Stags. He should!
Joe has never missed a day of training, weight lifting, or even school for that matter. We are so very proud of him! He loves his sport, his coaches and his team.
I can only say to any parent who is apprehensive about their child playing a sport, don’t be. It teaches them something well beyond how to play a game and how to follow the rules. It teaches them that each player is equal and it takes a whole team to win a ball game, not just one individual.
My hat is off to the wonderful coaches at Berkeley High School and I thank them so very much for allowing our son, Joseph, to enjoy his years on the team and be part of a bigger family.
