A Vital Choice

  • Tuesday, October 30, 2012

As president and professor at Charleston Southern University, I have been deeply involved with K-12 education in the Charleston region for 28 years.  My experience has allowed me to see firsthand the importance of students being prepared for college.
On Tuesday, November 6, Dorchester County will vote on the School Improvement Referendum.  The referendum will provide for a district-wide building program that will benefit all Dorchester District II students as they matriculate from elementary to high school to college.
Dorchester County has experienced significant community and population development.  Our school systems must keep pace with the region’s growth.  Passing the School Improvement Referendum will provide much-needed facilities to alleviate overcrowding and maximize the learning potential of students.  Another important factor of this referendum is providing technology upgrades in classrooms.  State of the art technology is essential for preparing students for a high tech society.
A vote of “yes” on November 6th will give our students a competitive advantage to excel in our changing environment.
