Time to welcome troops home

Dear Editor:

It is time for the community to come together to show are soldiers that we appreciate them.

Starting in May, the National Guard Alpha Co First 118th Infantry will start coming home after a long year in Afghanistan.  The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9509 and the Ladies Auxiliary have spent this year staying in contact with some of the families.  We started with a send off Spaghetti Dinner and then at Christmas we had a party with Santa and toys.  Now is the time to welcome them home.

We are asking that the community help in a few small ways.  Donations for the party, no matter how small will be appreciated.  Donations can be sent to Farmers & Merchants Bank, attn. VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9509, with reference to Moncks Corner Celebrates Our Soldiers, PO Box 578, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.

Also, we ask that all businesses with outside signs  Display Welcome Home Alpha Co. and Thank You.

And last but not least, please display your American Flag.

Remember June 14 is Flag Day, and this is the date of our welcome home party.

America's strength is in part because of Citizen Soldiers willing to serve whenever called, family members willing to carry on at home, and supporters willing to fill the space between these two roles; especially in this time our nation finds itself at war.  For this reason I am all the more grateful for your consideration of this request in support of soldiers' and families.

God bless you, our South Carolina Guard members, their families, and God bless America

Pat Pruitt

President Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9509
