LifeManagement Center (LMC) will host its 2nd Annual Corporate Spelling Bee at College of Charlestonís Sottile Theatre on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
The event helps fund its literacy programs in the tri-county region. Teams will consist of local businesses, schools, and community group members. The winning team will receive a Winnerís Trophy and the team with the most animated cheerleaders (noise makers to be provided!) will be presented with the Spirit Award.
Participating teams to include: Charleston School of Law, The Citadel, College of Charleston, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, and Pure Insurance. Corporate sponsored teams include: Charleston County Public Library sponsored by Maybank Properties; Dorchester County Public Library-Summerville Branch sponsored by Summerville Pediatrics P.A.; Pinewood Preparatory School sponsored by Roper St. Francis Healthcare; Porter-Gaud School sponsored by Childrenís Dentistry P.A. Between the Lines Book Club is a Honey Bee level sponsor and Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice is a Worker Bee level sponsor. Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Mallory Factor, Beth-Webb Hart, Elsa McDowell, and Kathleen Wilson will serve as event officials.
LifeManagement Centerís literacy programs include the Reading REWARDS program, which is provided free of charge top students at participating public schools. The research-validated REWARDS program is used nationally and is ideal for 5th-8th grade students who have at least second-grade reading skills, but struggle to comprehend their textbooks.
Over the past five years, the program has aided more than 400 students at Cario Middle School, Charlestowne Academy, Fort Johnson Middle School, Hursey Elementary School, James Island Middle School, Memminger School of Global Studies, Military Magnet Academy, Mitchell Math and Science Elementary School, St. Andrew's Middle School, West Ashley Middle School, and Whitesides Elementary School.
LifeManagement Center (LMC) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that offers consultations, psycho-educational assessments, tutoring, LifeCoaching, social skills training, and workshops. Offices are located in Charleston, Summerville, and Mt. Pleasant.
