Dingle Reunion President Samuel Middleton delivered many special honors at the recent event.

Swamp Fox Conservancy opens

The Swamp Fox Conservancy/Old Store Museum in Russellville will continue to operate on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., until the weather makes it to uncomfortable to do so.

Farmers are welcome. Bring your fall crops. Spaces are free.

Dinners and Baked goods will be for sale. Contact Liz Miller at 567-7698 or Teddy Kieley at 567-3912. Kindly leave a message if you are unable to speak with either of them personally when you call. You are thanked in advance for your support and attendance.

Dingle Reunion

Heirs of the late Sanco Dingle and Carolina Sumter Dingle came together in September to celebrate a rich and blessed heritage.

Reunion festivities began with a fish fry at one of the family homesteads in St. Stephen. It continued at Short Stay in Moncks Corner with a wonderful picnic, and ended on Sept. 6 following worships.

Activities throughout the various family gatherings consisted of wonderful songs of praise, delicious foods, good company and numerous fun activities.

During the reunion many recognitions and acknowledgements occurred. Certificates and plaques were presented in appreciation to reunion officers, committee members, as well as senior members of the family.

Among those receiving plaques were Ms. Mattie Dingle, Dr. Hattie Dingle Martin and Mrs. Leah Dingle Governor. The plaques were presented to these lovely ladies by Reunion President, Mr. Samuel Middleton. They were honored for their longevity and significant contributions made to the family over the years.

Miss Morris College

Ms. Shakira Theirse of Pineville, a daughter of O’Toole and Linnea Smalls Theirse of Pineville, was officially installed in a beautiful ceremony on Oct. 23 as Miss Morris College.

In attendance were numerous family members and friends.

Shakira is a gifted and extremely talented young lady who made a name for herself locally as a performer with the St Stephen theater group. She was active in academic and extracurricular activities from the beginning of her schooling years at J. K. Gourdin Elementary School, through her graduation from Timberland High School. Shakira also sang in her church’s’ youth choir, often serving as a lead singer and youth director.

Additionally she was a member of the cheerleading squad for her school. She was a member of her high school track team, often placing in the upper levels of her competitions, and she also competed on the state level in vocal competitions.

Shakira is scheduled to travel abroad this school term, and is requesting support of this worthy venture from her community, and county. I certainly hope that the citizens of Berkeley County and especially her community will come to her aid.

Now, having shared all of the above, it pained me greatly not to be able to attend the coronation, due to the contracting of the H1Nl Virus, but I am hopeful that family members will share with me pictures of the crowning which I will gladly share with readers.

Our young folks continue to make all of us so very proud of their resolve, talents and undefeatable will to soar and achieve.

Congratulations, Shakira. We are praying for your continued success.
