Dr. Jane Pulling and Joan Dehne led the recent voter registration drive.
This spring, 463 students in five high schools in Berkeley County registered to vote through a League of Women Voters initiative lead by Dr. Jane Pulling and Joan Dehne.

The League partnered with Berkeley County Schools, Superintendent Anthony Parker, Chief Administrative Officer Rodney Thompson, and the principals of Goose Creek High School (Jimmy Huskey), Stratford (Conrad Lopes), Timberland (Dave Barrow), Cane Bay (Dr. Sandy Jennings), and Berkeley (Dr. Karen McLaren).

Hanahan and Cross will have their drives in the fall.

League members Pulling, Dehne, Cheryl Malone and Karen Scanlon participated in the drive. Students registered during their lunch periods.

Information was sent to principals in advance of the activity. Principals used this material to promote the drive and encourage eligible students to participate. Each student who registered was given a sticker, which said, “I Registered to Vote.”

All students who will be 18 on or before Nov. 2, 2010 are eligible to register.

Registration forms are available on line at scvotes.org and from the Berkeley County Board of Elections, Live Oak Drive in Moncks Corner. Call (843) 761-6900. The last date to register before the elections is Oct. 2, 2010.
